Salt Lake County Auditor Scott Tingley has resigned from office as of December 31, 2021. The Salt Lake County Republican party Central Committee members will elect a new auditor on February 5, 2022 at the Central Committee Meeting. Candidates must use the candidate filing form below and pay the $50 candidate filing fee to be considered for the election.

Personal life:
Chris Harding has been a resident of Salt Lake County for over 18 years. Chris was raised in Bountiful Utah, graduating from Viewmont in 1998. Chris went on to serve a mission for his church in Dallas Texas for 2 years. Chris has been married to his wife, Candice, for 20 years this March, they have five children ages 17 down to 5.
Education:
Chris received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Utah in 2006 and MBA from Weber State University in 2008.
Professional Licenses:
Chris has been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) since 2009. Chris has furthered his professional development by becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) as well as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
Experience:
Right out of college, Chris obtained a wide variety of auditing and compilation experience in public and private companies such as the Larry H. Miller Car Dealerships and the Utah Jazz, as well as local city governments such as West Valley City and Riverton.
Chris has spent the majority of his professional experience working for the federal government. Chris became a federal employee in May of 2008 leading and performing a variety of contract audits (locally and overseas) covering a wide array of specialties including defense, engineering, aerospace, communications, robotics, and software in accordance with Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards. Chris has performed extensive price/cost analysis to support the Navy’s Trident D5 II submarine launched ballistic missile. As the Director of Internal Review and Compliance out at Dugway Proving Ground, Chris served as the principal advisor to the commander on internal control and audit matters. As an auditor for the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, Chris is responsible for executing innovative and complex performance audits of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and its key processes and controls. Evaluating IRS’ handling of emerging threats (e.g. backlog of returns due to COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent shut down), and how it implements new laws enacted by Congress and signed into law by the President (e.g. Tax Cuts and Jobs Act & CARES Act).
Chris operates a successful side business conducting performance audits and agreed-upon procedures for school districts such as Salt Lake and Jordan School Districts and local governments such as Provo City.

Personal:
David Muir has been a lifelong Republican and resident of Salt Lake County.
David & his wife Cheri have raised their family of 5 children in Cottonwood Heights.
David served as the Salt Lake County Party Treasurer in the late 80’s, and also served on the State Republican Executive Committee and was responsible for the State Convention Election processing.
Education/Certifications:
David graduated with an Accounting degree and then a BS in Political Science from the University of Utah. While a working professional auditor with Salt Lake County, David also obtained and MBA from Utah State. David has continued to qualify himself with many professional certifications, including Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Government Financial Manager, Certified Public Finance Administrator and Certified Public Funds Investment Manager.
Experience:
Currently David has been working for the City of Cottonwood Heights for 16 years. He was the first employee in the door when Cottonwood Heights became a city. As the City Finance Director, he established all things financial, including property tax analysis and collections and Sales Tax zip+4 distribution analysis that benefited all entities in the State of Utah. David has published all annual financial reports for the City of Cottonwood Heights. He is currently the appointed City Treasurer/Financial Reporting Manager.
I started my government career at the SL County auditor's office in 1987.
I left the County in 1996 after serving as a Chief Deputy in the Salt Lake County Commission. I continued my career in Accounting and Auditing. I have served as Chairman of the Institute of Internal Auditors association in Utah, I have also served as chairman of the Utah Government Finance Officers Association.
I have previously worked on many fraud and embezzlement cases both before and while serving as the Chief Internal Auditor reporting to the Board of Directors of a national retailer.
One of my best attributes is that I will dig in and resolve problems that many may not be willing to pursue.
